Skateboard Cop 2014-present Green Bay Police
City of Green Bay Employee of the Year 2015
In 2014, I took a longboard to work and started skating my beat in uniform. Fueled by frustation over nonsensical skate laws and anger at the discrimination that skateboarders face, I tried to put a different face on the sport. I wanted to show the haters, that skaters are not punks! They are some of the most inspiring athletes and creative movement artists I know.
I didn't expect the attention that this move recieved but I used that momentum to do as much good as I could. I created a skatecamp for middle school kids, a skate clinic for children on the autism spectrum, and even traveled, speaking about the value of getting kids skating.
The most lasting achievement of the fight, however, was convincing the lawmakers to open up the Fox River Trail to Skateboaders, which had previously been banned. Now that trail is enjoyed by all.
